Job Description

The Indian Fashion Industry is booming and is today considered as one of the top industrial sector that gained huge spotlight. All this is possible because of the efforts made by the much-acclaimed Indian designs who have made inroads to the global fashion arena. Industry sources says that the Indian Fashion Industry is getting corporate and this means that more and more fashion brands will hit the stage. On the other hand, international fashion companies began to open shops in the country. These factors have led to a huge demand for creative designers in the fashion industry.

Fashion designers usually deal with two type of clothing - haute couture (clothing exclusively designed for private customers for their custom sizes and arts) and ready-to-wear (clothing that is targeted at the general market and generally comes in industry-standard clothing sizes). Ready-to-wear fashion designers also make clothing for fashion models.

And if you think fashion designing is all about stiching and crafting fashion clothes you are wrong. Apparel-ware such as Bags, Accessories, Ties and a whole range of lifestyle items needs today are specially designed by fashion designers.

Essential Skills

Fashion designing, being an art requires the students who undertake the course to be very creative and artistic. Students from leading fashion institutes such as the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and Pearl often get absorbed by leading garment and export houses for salaries ranging from Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 15,000. Needless to say, creative fashion designers are in huge demand as the retail and lifestyle sector in India is booming.
