Proposal mooted to eliminate guesswork in multiple-choice questionsThe State Government has dropped the proposal of introducing negative marking in EAMCET following the feedback from various quarters. The proposal was mooted to eliminate guesswork in answering the multiple choice question papers. This would deter the students from hazarding a guess, as reduction in the score will distance the seat from them.
The system was suited to a system where seats are few and students are more but the situation is entirely different in the State. There are nearly 1.5 lakh seats in engineering and pharmacy and nearly same number of students is taking part in the examination.
In a bid to fill up the vacant seats, the government forced to reduce the qualifying marks for the past couple of years. To avoid this embarrassment, the Government has fixed the qualifying marks at 40 said an official.
