CTC 01 Introduction to Technical Communication

An introduction to technical communication through a survey of its theoretical foundations, history, core competencies, opportunities, and challenges. Also includes an introduction to different kinds of technical communication documents or products.

CTC 02 Information Design and Development

Information development life cycle with a detailed look into each phase of the cycle. Also includes a study of various information organisation structures, factors affecting information and document design, and strategies for information organisation. Also includes a discussion on the differences in information design and writing for print and online media.

CTC 03 Technical Writing

An in-depth look at the technical writing process including forms of discourse, methods of development, writing and revising drafts, collaborative writing, and creating indexes. Also includes a detailed study of technical writing style and language.

CTC 04 Grammar and Editing

An introduction to basics of grammar and a study of advanced grammar. Also includes an in-depth look at technical editing and editing strategies to achieve an appropriate technical writing style.

CTC 05 Technical Communication Software Tools

A study of select technical communication software tools including Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker, and Macromedia RoboHELP.

CTC 06 Project Work

A team project to create a printed user’s guide or online Help for a product.

CTC 07 Advanced Technical

Communication Topics A brief introduction to advanced technical communication and related topics like usability, human factors, managing technical communication projects, time estimation, single sourcing, localisation, and so on.
