Maximum Marks: 100
(Weightage 70%)
Note: There are two Sections A and B. Section A has two sets. Set I is meant for students who have registered prior to January, 2005 i.e. upto June, 2004. Set II is meant for students who have registered from January, 2005 and onwards. Attempt any four questions from Section A. All questions carry 15 marks each. Section B is compulsory for all and carries 40 marks.

1. Identify the similarities and differences between Maslow's theory and Herzberg's theory of motivation. Discuss the relevance of these theories in practice, citing examples.
2. Define recruitment. Discuss the methods of recruitment with illustrations.
3. Explain the need for career planning in an organisation. Identify the merits and limitations of career planning. What are the determinants of success in career planning ?
4. Discuss the concept and objective of labour welfare. Explain the significance of labour welfare measures and social security benefits in Indian context.
5. Distinguish between training, education and development. Explain the essential prerequisites of a good training programme.
6. Write short notes on any three of the following :
(i) Employer's association
(ii) Job enrichment
(iii) Fringe benefits
(iv) Collective bargaining
(v) Morale

1. Define competency mapping. Briefly discuss the concept and objectives of competency mapping. Explain the methods of competency mapping.
2. Discuss some of the commonly used types of tests in personnel selection. Why is interviewing the most useful selection method ? Discuss.
3. Answer the following :
(a) What are the objectives of performance coaching ?
(b) What are the basic principles of compensation administration ?
4. Explain the meaning and concept of industrial discipline. Briefly discuss the stages of disciplinary action and procedure, with examples.
5. 'When an organisation is designing its overall compensation programme, one of the critical areas of concem is the benefits package.' Explain with the help of suitable examples.
6. Write short notes on any three of the following:
(i) Workers' participation in management
(ii) Outsourcing
(iii) Reward Management
(iv) Human resource audit
(v) Industrial democracy
