SECTION A
1 . What are functions ? Describe different types of functions. Discuss the business applications of one such function with the help of an example.
2. Eight coins were tossed together and the number of heads (x) resulting was noted. The operation was repeated 256 times and the frequencies (f) that were obtained for different v&ues of x, the number of heads, are shown in the following table. Calculate median. quartiles and 4th decile.

3. If two dice are thrown, what is the probability that the sum of numbers that appeared on them is
(a) greater than 8 ?
(b) neither 7 nor 11 ?
4. Samples of two types of electiic buibs were tested for length of life arid the following data were obtained

Test whether the two types of bulbs have the same length of life.
5. The following table gives the number of screws declared fit and also unfit by three inspectors X, Y and Z. Test the hypothesis that the proportion of screws declared unfit by the three inspectors are same.

6. Write short notes on any three of the following
(a) Scalar Matrix
(b) Relationship between mean, median, mode
(c) Bernoulli process
(d) The significance level
(e) Standard error of forecast
SECTION B
7. An auditor has found that the credit rewards of a large mail order have been approximately normally distributed and show an average account billing error of Rs. 10 and a standard deviation of Re. 1 (billing error may be positive or negative according to whether purchases were overcharged or undercharged). Suppose credit account is randomly selected from the files of the mail order house. Find the probability of a billing error between Rs. 10 and Rs. 1150.
8. The following table gives the age of cars of a certain make and actual maintenance costs. Obtain the regression equation for costs related to age. Also estimate the maintenance cost for a ten year old car.
