SECTION A
1. List and discuss various statistical techniques which are useful to a decision maker in solving problems. clearly statethe purpose of these techniques and hence highlight the advantages of quantitative approach to management.
2. Calculate the average deviation from the mean for the following series:

| 90 - 100 | 8 |
3. An insurance salesman sells policies to 5 men, all of identical age and good health. According to acturial tables, the probability that a man of this particular age will be alive 30 years hence is 2/3. Find the probability that 30 years hence
(i) at least 1 man will be alive.
(ii) at least 3 men will be alive.
4. 470 heads were obtained in 1000 throws of an unbiased coin. Test the hypothesis that the coin is fair. Use 5% level of significance.
5. In a certain book, the frequenry distribution of the number of words per page may be taken as approximately normal with mean 400 and standard deviation 25. lf a page is chosen at random, what is the probability that the number of words lies between 415 and 450?
6. Write short notes on any three of the following:
(a) Derivative of the product of two functions
(b) Cumulative frequency
(c) Definitions of probability
(d) Chi-square distribution
(e) Auto-regressive models
SECTION B
7. The probability that a student A solves a mathematics problem is 2/5 and the probability that a student B solve it is 2/3. What is the Probability that
(a) The problem is not solved.
(b) Both A and B, working independently of each other. solve the Problem.
8. Calculate the coefficient of correlation between age group and rate of mortality from the following data:
