SECTION A
1. Describe various statistical techniques which are useful to a decision maker in solving problems. Clearly state the purpose of these techniques and highlight the advantages of the quantitative approach to management.
2. Calculate median, 6th decile and 40th percentile from the following data :

3. Assuming that 2 in 10 industrial accidents are due to fatigue, find the probability that
(a) Exactly 2 to 8 industrial accidents will be due to fatigue.
(b) At least 2 of the 8 industrial accidents will be due to fatigue.
4. At a petrol station, the mean quanlity of petrol sold to a vehicle is 20 litres per day with a standard deviation of 10 litres. If on a particular day, 100 vehicles took 25 or more litres of petrol, estimate the total number of vehicles which took petrol from the station that day. Assume the quantity of petrol taken from the station by a vehigle is a normal variate.
5. The manufacturer of a spot remover claims that his product removes at least 90% of all spots. What can be concluded about his claim at the level of significance cr = 0.05, if the spot remover removed only 174 of the 200 spots chosen at random from the spots on clothes brought to a dry cleaning establishment ?
6. Write short notes on any three of the following :
(a) Derivative of a function of a function
(b) Relative frequency
(c) Sample space
(d) Chi-square distribution
(e) Moving average models
Section B
7. A bag contains 8 red and 5 white balls. Two successive drawings of 3 balls each are made such that
(a) Balls are replaced before the second trial
(b) Balls are not replaced before the second trial
Find the probabilip that the first drawing will give 3 white and the second 3 red balls.
8. From the following table, find the missing values and calculate the coefficient of correlation bv Karl Pearson's method :

Arithmetic mean of X and Y are 6 and 8 respectively.
