SECTION A

1. (a) When every company has a normal printed set of orders, why is it then necessary for the masters to write seperate orders in addition?

(b) Write a note on importance of log book on ships.

2. Describe the procedure for handing over / taking over navigational watch.

3. (a) What action is required to be taken by the officer of the watch at sea on the onset of rough weather?

(b) Sketch a typical TSS and show the various areas and signs of importance.

4. (a) Enumerate details which should be included in the 'PORT PASSAGE PLAN'.

(b) Using the radar properly is necessary in heavy rain or fog to avoid collision. What is the meaning of "using the radar properly"?

6. (a) How does Security level 2 differ from Security level 3?

(b) Name any three restricted areas if the last vessel that you sailed on.

7. (a) List the various sophesticated security equiptments. Write a short note on any one of them.

(b) What is a ship security alert system, and why is it fitted on a ship?

8. (a) Name five different personal protective equiptments and state the care you would take when wearing / using them.

(b) What is an emergency? Name five different types of emergencies.

9. On board a ship, you are two others are required to lift a load and carry it from one deck to a deck above. Describe the precautions you would take while executing this task.

10. (a) On a ship, what do you mean by "good housekeeping"?

(b) Name at least ten documents that a vetting inspector would like to see during a vetting inspection of an oil tanker.
