Note : Attempt Any five questions. All questions carry equal marks.

1. Write short notes on any four of the following. Give examples whe rever necessary. (4x5=20)
(i) The Reading technique' Look and say'
(ii) Three phases of a listening lesson
(iii) Role of the teacher as facilitator and motivator
(iv) Teaching grammar in context
(v) Difference between an Intensive Reader and a Supplementary Reader
(vi) Practitioner Research' in the English Classroom

2. (a) What are 'instructional materials' ? What kind of materials are used by language teachers besides text-books to make theif lessons interesting ? Write briefly about some of them. (20)

(b) "All material does not lend itself to effective implementation and it becomes essential to 'adapt' materials". Do you agree ? Give reasons for your answer. Describe three ways in which materials can be adapted.

3. (a) Distinguish between authoring skills and crafting skills. Can one be a good writer if s/he has only authoring skills ? Elabordte with the help of examples from day-to-day teaching. (20)

OR

(b) What are the different approaches to teaching writing? Write three features of each. What advantages does process-oriented approach have over other approaches?

4. Differentiate between intensive and extensive listening comprehension. What are the three types of listening materials used ? Give one example of each. (20)

OR

Why should students be given practice in reading? What does a student do when s/he reads a text ? Make a web chart to show how a student responds to a text.

5. (a) Define discipline. State some of the factors that promote indiscipline in steps that can be taken it. (20)

OR

(b) Discuss the Direct and the Indirect approaches to the teaching of conversation. What approach do you think is better for your classroom and Why?
