1. Answer any one of the following in about 1200 words :

(i) How do the inputs and outputs in variable costs in distance education differ from those in conventional education?

(ii). Define 'Wastage in Education'. How can it be measured?

2. Answer any four of the following in about 300 words each:

(i) Describe the factors which bear upon the costs of distance education.

(ii) Distinguish between "cost-efficiency" and "cost-effectiveness" in distance education.

(iii) Describe how financial resources for education can be mobilized and utilized.

(iv) Define the term 'unit cost of education' and discuss its application to distance education.

(v) What is meant by costing model? Describe the costing model followed by IGNOU.

(vi) Briefly describe "the mission of the Open Universities" at a macro level.

3. Answer any one of the following in about 1200 words:

(i) Critically analyse the funding policies of various distance teaching institutions that you have studied and their implications for the future of distance education.

(ii) Give a brief analysis of cost studies of Radio and Television Universities in China. Suggest how can distance-teaching institutions in the developing countries achieve quality education through distance mode.
