Note: Attempt any five questions. All questions carry equal marks.

1. Discuss the role of road transport in the movement of import-export cargo. Also outline its limitations and the steps taken by the Government for the improvement of road network and fleet modernisation. (8+12)

2. "The peculiarities at demand, distribution, competition and government regulation from one country to another force the logistician into operating the logistics system in a manner different truss domestic operations for the some product". In the light of this statement, discuss the various environmental aspects of international trade and their impact on the logistics system. (20)

3. Describe the working of Air India and Indian Airlines and state the impact of private operators on their functioning. (12+8)

4. Distinguish between the following (8+6+6)

(a) Total Cost Concept and Total Systems Concept

(b) Charter Party and Bill of Lading

(c) Commercial Crime Bureau and Counterfeiting Intelligence Bureau

5. Discuss the limitations of conventional ships, and explain how containerisation has helped in overcoming these constraints. (10+10)

6. "The developing countries, despite having a share of over 50% of the goods load in world sea borne trade, have been unable to build their shipping capacity". Comment on this statement, and also state the problems faced by them in this regard. (8+12)

7. Distinguish between Time Charter and Voyage Charter. Enumerate the responsibilities of ship owners under these two charters. (12+8)

8. Write short notes on any four of the following (5+5+5+5)

(a) Dredging Corporation of India

(b) Land Bridging

(c) Warehousing in Globalisation Era

(d) Australian Trade Practices Legislation

(e) Common Areas of Maritime Frauds

(f) Liabilities of a Multimodal Transport Operator
