1. Elaborate on the following statements

(a) Traditionally, physical distribution is considered as the "other half of marketing".

(b) Dedicated warehousing is the combination of public and private warehousing services.

(c) World economic situation and world trade are very closely related. (8+4+8)

2. Describe the limitations of conventional ships in loading the break bulk cargo and discuss how has containerisation helped in overcoming these constraints. (12+8)

3. "Indian shipping policy measures are aimed at the development of shipping fleet so as to attain self-reliance". Do you agree ? Discuss how far India has been able to achieve the objectives set out in the shipping policy. (20)

4. Discuss the basic principles and factors that govern the liner freight rates. Also specify the different elements added to basic freight rates to work out the final charges to be paid in case of break-bulk cargo. (20)

5. Distinguish between

(a) Voyage charter and Time charter

(b) Ship owner's lien and Maritime lien

(c) Total Cost Concept and Total System Concept of logistics management

(d) Inter-modalism and Multi-modalism (6+4+6+4)

6. (a) Explain briefly the consulting arrangements in India for resolving shipper's problems.

(b) Outline the various activities and services provided by International Maritime Bureau. (10+10)

7. What are the major aspects of logistics planning ? Explain these aspects and describe the factors that influence logistics planning. (10+10)

8. Write short notes on any four of the following : (5+5+5+5)

(a) Limitations of Road Transport System in India

(b) Air Cargo Tariff

(c) Importance of National Shipping

(d) Liabilities of Multi-Modal Transport Operator

(e) Corporatisation of Indian ports

(f) Selective Inventory Control
