3. What are cardinal vowels ? Describe and classify the English vowels. 25

4. What do you understand by bilingualism ? Differentiate between compound, coordinate and subordinate bilinguals giving adequate examples.25

5. What is the notion of 'scope' in syntax ? Describe the scope-bearing elements in English. 25

6. What is the role of learner factors in second language acquisition ? Discuss these factors with special reference to motivation and attitude. 25

7 . What do you understandb y a standardl anguage? Describe the four stages in the process of standardization of a language. 25
