Note: Answer any five questions in 400 words each from the following questions given in Section I and Section II, selecting atleast two questions out of each section. All questions carry equal marks.

SECTION I

1. Explain the relationship between disasters and development. Also bring out the role of reconstruction and rehabilitation in development. (10)

2. Discuss the role of various governmental and non-governmental agencies in disaster management and development. (10)

3. "Remote Sensing and Earth Observation Programmes are effective communication systems for information management." Discuss. (10)

4. Write a note on disaster preparedness in Asia. (10)

5. Write short notes on each of the follawing in 200 words each :

(a) A case study of Malpa Landslide (5)

(b) Standardisation of Relief Response by various agencies (5)

SECTION II

6. Describe the basic steps and principles involved in disaster recovery planning. (10)

7. Analyse the role of media in reaching out to people at the time of disasters. (10)

8. Discuss the role of international donor agenices in disaster reconstruction. (10)

9. Highlight the significance of education, awareness and training in disaster mangement. (10)

10. Write short notes on each of the following in 200 words each:

(a) Constraints in monitoring and evaluation (5)

(b) People-oriented experiments in Gujarat related to long-term counter-disaster planning. (5)
