The PCMB is providing better opportunities to the minority students by giving them an opportunity to write MEMCET also for getting admissions into any of the 12 minority engineering colleges who have given their consent, PCMB to conduct the Entrance Test on their behalf and also make necessary admissions as per merit.
The students who will be qualifying in MEMCET may be allotted a seat in any of the majority community institutions. Last year, it was noticed that in 175 majority community institutions, only 109 minority students got the admissions through Convenor-EAMCET; whereas in the Minority institutions more than 2000 majority community students were admitted in the Free Category and very few in the payment Category. Thus, more than 2,000 seats were lying vacant in the Payment Category in the Minority Institutions. A statistical record based on a survey recently conducted, was obtained by the PCMB, through which it was noticed that more than 50% of the students (majority as well as minority) admitted in the colleges under, PCMB, had joined different Coaching Centers and taken coaching by paying Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 80,000 and some have paid event Rs. 1,00,000. Several students merit in intermediate (75% to 96.5% marks), but they were not in a position to go to the coaching centers due to their weak economic conditions. Thus, they could not get higher ranks and some even could not get the qualifying marks in EAMCET. There is an apprehension in certain circles that if minority students do not write EAMCET, they will be away from the National Mainstream. This is not correct. EAMCET is only an aptitude test, it is conducted to, determine comparative ranks. If one does not take up this test for seeking admission and opts for another alternative, he/she not drift away from the mainstream. The MEMCET is being conducted in view of the Supreme Court Orders and the Supreme Court of India will never issue such directions as to allow the minority students to drift away from the mainstream. The MEMCET is scheduled on 130 April, 2003. Application Forms for MEMCET can be obtained from the office of the PCMB by submitting a DD of Rs.100 and at the time of submission of Form a DD of Rd. 250 It required to be submitted before 31st March, 2003. Eligibility Candidates who wish to pursue education after 10+2 level, have to pass the Intermediate or 10+2 level and then apply for any of the coursesfor which they are eligible. Such of the candidates who have passed 10+2 with Mathematics, Physics and chemistry as main subjects can opt for either Three Year Degree Program in B.Sc (Computers) or Electronics or B.Com or B.A. Also, these candidates are eligible to appear for the Entrance Test conducted by PCMB to seek admission based on the merit of the test in Engineering and Pharmacy Courses. Those who pass 10+2 with Biology,Physics and Chemistry can opt for varied Courses at degree level with combinations of Microbiology, Genetics, Nutrition,Applied Sciences, Biology, Commerce and Arts. Also they remain eligible to appear for the entrance test held by PCMB to seek admission in B.Pharmacy course. As the associated Societies do not have Medical College at present, they can only opt for B.Pharmacy Course.
