Genetics Department to study blood samples

The Department of Human Genetics of Andhra University (AU) has signed an MoU with the King George Hospital on Saturday for a research programme Under this MoU. According to Head of the Department, G Sudhakar said that the Genetics department would study the blood samples collected from the patients for its protein content, enzyme content and DNA. The later would be studied to identify the molecular defects in the genes which were predisposing the individuals for the manifestation of diseases concerned.
He said that the most important outcome of the project would be when once the specific and unique molecular defect is identified, the department will embark on the process of screening all the kith and kin of these patients to identify the others in the family who have inherited this particular molecular defect which will predispose him or her genetically to develop the disease later in the life.
The Registrar of AU P Vijaya Prakash and the Superintend of KGH T Raviraju signed the MoU in the presence of AU Vice Chancellor L Venugopal Reddy. The Principal of AU College of Science and Technology P Veeraju, Prof.Sudhakar, Chairman of Board of Studies G Paddaiah were present on the occasion.
