118 Doctorates presented at the Convocation

On the eve of 73rd and 74th Convocation of Andhra University held at Dr Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy Utsavaranagam, the Vice Chancellor of Andhra University, L Venugopal Reddy conferred the honorary doctor of Science on Prof.Raj Reddy and Satyam Computers Chairman B Ramalinga Raju and honorary degree of Doctor of Letter on Minister for Finance and Legislative Affairs, K Rosaiah.
Speaking on the occasion, Dean, Computer Science at Carnegie Mellown University
(US) Raj Reddy said that the pressure of appearing for tests and memorizing only the relevant portions to get a good score had deprived most of young minds of the opportunity to know the ancient wisdom and culture of India. Prof. Reddy who was IT adviser to former US President Bill Clinton said information and communication Technology would usher in further changes and pointed out how lifestyle change the advent of Internet, world wide web, satellite communication, digital computers and so on during the last fifty years.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. L Venugopal Reddy said that Andhra University has also obtained ISO 9001-2000 certification and was preparing for the first year end surveillance audit this year. He said that the Ministry of HRD had identified Andhra University Autonomous College of Engineering as one of the top seven university Engineering Colleges for upgrading into Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology. In all, 118 doctorates, 252 awards to 105 student for scoring highest marks were presented. Sixteen researchers were given best researcher awards in addition to various memorial medals.
