Rs. 1.4 crore spent for purchase of infrastructure

The IBM opened it service centre at the Andhra University on Friday. Andhra University is all set to have about 400 computers set up in various departments. Nearly Rs. 1.4 crore was spent for the purchase of computers from the IBM and provision of Internet according to the officials.
Out of the ordered 400-odd computers, 20 will be supplied to Kakinada, Tadepalligudem, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam. Fifty computers will be set up at the School of Distance Education and another 35 at the University Library for the benefit of the students. Ten computers will be exclusively for the administrative purposes.
The Vice Chancellor of AU, L. Venugopal Reddy said that the systems will be provided to all faculties along with Internet in a phased manner. He further added that it is necessary in the area of globalization and the faculty has to upgrade their skills about the latest technology.
