Seminar feels women have suffered from discrimination

Visakhapatnam, February 21, 2007

A National seminar on demography and gender discrimination began at Andhra University (AU) on Wednesday. The Vice Chancellor of AU, L. Venugopal Reddy, inaugurated the three-day seminar.

In his inaugural address, the Vice Chancellor said that men and women were considered equal partners in a societal development. However, social, economic and political structures and policies of a country strengthen or weaken the equality of genders. He said that women suffered from discriminative practices.

Bobbili MP attended as the guest of honour. K. Ramakrishna Rao, Chairman of the Institute of Philosophical Studies, Government of India and N. Niruparani, Vice Chancellor, Adikavi Nannayya University participated in the function.
