About the Course

Students admitted to the programme are eligible for the award of M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology on successful completion of the course.

The School of Life Sciences at University of Hyderabad offers "M.Sc Biotechnology Programme". Nearly thirty faculty members drawn from three departments Animal Sciences, Biochemistry and Plant Sciences combine there efforts to offer this multidisciplinary course. During the first semester, courses like Cell Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry and Microbiology with related practicals along with Biostatistics are taught. In the first semester, courses in Immunology, Biophysical, Biochemical methods and Instrumentation. Plant Tissue Culture, Animal Tissue Culture, Molecular Biology and Recombinant DNA Technology, Microbial Biotechnology, Medical and Animal Biotechnology, Genomics & Proteomics and Bioprocess and Biochemical Engineering are offered. In the third and fourth semesters, the students undertake a project work in one of the research areas of the School and present seminars related to their project topics. Recently university has introduced a "choice based credit system" where for students are allowed to choose optional courses of their interest offered by different Departments as well as other Schools.

The School of Life Science has been established with an emphasis on interdisciplinary teaching and research in modern biology. Biospectrum of India had awarded "Bio institute of year 2004" to the University of Hyderabad (UH) and UH was ranked highest in the survey.

The School consists of three departments namely

(1) Department of Biochemistry
(2) Department of Plant Sciences
(3) Department of Animal Sciences. Each of these departments offers M.Sc. and Ph.D programme of study.

Course Fee & other fee details
Rs.4190/- (including refundable deposit Rs.440/-at the time of admission); and thereafter approx. Rs.2980/- per semester. Hostel charges as applicable from time to time (There will be enhance money of 10% in the fee payable every year).
