Syllabus for the Entrance Examination

The question paper consists of two parts - Part A, Part B. Part A : Consists of objective type questions. (Note that wrong answers will carry negative marks). Emphasis will be more on testing understanding of concepts rather than computional skills. The duration of test is 2 hours. The written test for admission to the M.Sc. Mathematics/ Applied Mathematics may include questions, which will require the answers to be written out. A majority of the questions will be on the following topics: Sets, sequences, series, limits, continuity, differentiation, integration, graphs of functions, coordinate geometry of two and three dimensions, group theory, vector spaces, matrices, determinants, linear transformations, rank, nullity, eigen values, system of linear equations, elementary probability, distribution theory and logical reasoning.
