Admission to various courses - Last date for counter sale of Prospectus-cum-Application Forms and submission of filled in Application Forms: May 8, 2007
The University of Hyderabad was established by an act of parliament in 1974 and emerged as a premier centre of higher learning with outstanding student output and faculty who have to their credit notable accomplishments. The University offers facilities for post-graduate and research studies in major disciplines in sciences, humanities, social sciences, performing arts, fine arts, communication and management studies. Admissions are made on all-India basis in order of merit in the entrance examination. The University offers fellowships to all students admitted to any of its regular program of study.
The entrance examinations for admission to various courses during 2007-08 will be held from 2nd to 7th June, 2007 at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Patna, Pune, Tirupati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. The University reserves the right to cancel any of the examination centers and allot another nearer centre for applicants of the centre cancelled.
I. Courses offered by the Schools of Humanities, Social Sciences and Sarojini Naidu School of Performing Arts, Fine Arts and Communication. A separate application is required for each of the courses.
M.A. courses (4 semesters) in English, Philosophy, Hindi, Functional Hindi (Translation), Telugu, Urdu, Applied Linguistics, Economics, History, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology and Communication.
MPA (4 semesters) in Dance and Theatre Arts.
MFA (4 semesters) in Painting / Print Making / Sculpture (Single application can be used).
Adv. PG Diploma Course (2 semesters) in Folk Culture Studies
M.Phil courses (2 semesters) in English, Philosophy, Hindi, Telugu, Urdu, Applied Linguistics, Translation Studies, Comparative Literature, Economics, History, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology and Regional Studies.
Ph.D. Programmes in English, Philosophy, Hindi, Telugu, Urdu, Applied Linguistics, Translation Studies, Comparative Literature, Sanskrit Studies, Economics, History, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Regional Studies, Folk Culture Studies, Communication, Theatre Arts, and Dance.
II. Courses offered by the Science Schools (including MCA and M.Tech.) and the School of Management Studies. A separate application is required for each of the courses.
M.Sc courses (4 semesters) in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics (Single application can be used), Statistics-O.R., Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Plant Sciences (Biotechnology) and Animal Biotechnology
M.C.A. course (6 Semesters)
M.Tech courses (4 semesters) in Computer Science/Artificial Intelligence/Information Technology with specialization in Banking Technology and Information Security (in collaboration with Institute for Development Research in Banking Technology) (IDRBT), Hyderabad (Single application can be used), Computational Techniques, IC Technology, Medical Biotechnology (in collaboration with Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences) (NIMS), Hyderabad, and Bioinformatics (in collaboration with the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting Diagnostics (CDFD), Hyderabad.
Note: For admission into M.Tech courses in Computer Science/Artificial Intelligence/Information Technology, GATE qualification is a must.
Ph.D programmes in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics-OR, Computer Science, Physics, Electronics Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Plant Sciences, Animal Sciences, and Management Studies.
III. Courses offered by the Special Centre for Integrated Studies
5 – Year Integrated Master’s Degree Courses (after +2 education)
I.M.Sc. (10 semesters) Sciences (Mathematical Sciences/Physics/Chemical Sciences/Systems Biology;
I.M.A. (10 semesters) Humanities (Languages: (Hindi/Telugu/Urdu)/Language Sciences,
I.M.A. (10 semesters) Social Sciences (Economics/History/Political Science/Sociology/Anthropology)
IV. Courses offered by the University Centre for Earth and Space Sciences
M.Tech course (4 semesters) in Mineral Exploration
Adv. PG Diploma (2 semesters) in Mineral Exploration
(The above two courses are offered in collaboration with National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad - admission for these courses during the year 2007-08 is restricted to the sponsored candidates only).

For General Category Rs. 300/-
For SC/ST/OBC/PH Category Rs. 50/-
General Information:
Detailed information regarding entrance examinations and qualifications for admissions etc. are given in the Prospectus-cum-Application Form 2007-08. Candidates who are appearing in the final examination of the qualifying degree and expecting their results before 31st July 2007 are also eligible to apply.
Reservation of seats: In each course, 15% and 7.5% of the seats are reserved for SC and ST candidates respectively with a provision for inter-changeability wherever necessary. 3% of the seats are reserved for Physically challenged candidates. 27% seats reserved for OBC candidates is subjudice and subject to a final decision of the Government of India. Relaxation in the prescribed percentage of marks in the qualifying degree examination is also provided for these categories. For further details, refer to the Prospectus-cum-Application Form 2007-08.
How to apply: Prospectus-cum-Application Forms can be obtained in person from 9.4.2007 to 8.5.2007 from the Academic Section, Office of the Controller of Examinations, Administration Building in the University Campus, Hyderabad – 500 046 or from "Golden Threshold" (GT) premises of the University, Nampally Station Road, Hyderabad 500 001", against cash payment.
The Prospectus-cum-Application Form/s can also be obtained by ordinary post up to 30.4.2007 from the Dy. Registrar (Acad & Exams), University of Hyderabad, P.O. Central University, Hyderabad – 500 046 by sending (a) a requisition, (b) one self-addressed adhesive sticker/slip, and (c) a crossed demand draft for the amount specified for the respective category i.e., Rs.300/- in the case of General Category and Rs. 50/- in the case of SC/ST/OBC/PH categories for each copy of prospectus-cum-application form together with Rs. 50/- towards the ordinary postal charges drawn in favour of the Finance Officer, University of Hyderabad, on State Bank of India, Hyderabad Central University Campus Branch, Hyderabad (Code 5916) or on Andhra Bank, Nampally Branch, Hyderabad (Code 378). The Prospectus-cum-Application Form can also be downloaded from the University’s website (available from 5.4.2007 to 5.5.2007) and duly filled in such application/s can be sent enclosing there with a bank draft of Rs.150/- for each course in the case of General Category and Rs.50/- for each course in the case of SC/ST/OBC/PH categories.
1. Prospectus-cum-Application Forms meant for reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PH) should not be used by the General Category candidates.
2. The cost of Prospectus-cum-Application Form includes the registration/entrance examination fee.
3. The cost of the Prospectus-cum-Application form for SC/ST/OBC/PH does not include entrance examination/ registration fee as they are exempted from payment of entrance examination/ registration fee.
4. A separate application is required for each course, except for MFA (Painting/Print Making/Sculpture); M.Sc. (Mathematics/Applied Mathematics; M.Tech (CS/AI/IT); IMSc., IMA Humanities and IMA Social Sciences for which a single application form can be used.
5. Filled in applications can be sent either by post to the Deputy Registrar (Acad & Exams) at the above address or submitted at the Automated Admission Office in the Office of the Controller of Examinations, Administration Building in the University Campus, Hyderabad-500046. For further details, refer to the Instructions provided in the Prospectus-cum-Application Form 2007-08.

Note:
(1) University will not be responsible for any postal delay. Candidates are, therefore, advised to apply well in time.
(2) Provision also exists for Ph.D admission for NET-JRF qualified candidates in October, 2007, January and April, 2008. For further details, refer to the Prospectus-cum-Application Form 2007-08.
(3) MBA (4 Semesters) : Candidates are selected for admission from among the CAT qualified candidates after holding Group Discussion/Interview by the University. Admissions for the academic year 2008-09 have been completed. Applicants who want to be considered for admission during the academic year 2007-08 should appear for the CAT 2007 and apply to the University separately as per the University’s advertisement/press release in August/September 2007.
(4) M.Sc. Biotechnology: The admissions for the M.Sc. Biotechnology programme during the year 2007-08 will be based on the allotment made by the JNU which will conduct a common entrance test on 18-05-2007.
