University of Hyderabad - University of Hyderabad signs MoU with WWF

To preserve biodiversity in campus, study and document flora & fauna

The University of Hyderabad has entered an MoU with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to preserve biodiversity in the campus and to study and document the flora and fauna on the premises of the campus. The University that spread over an area of 2,000 acres, is known to house some rare species of plants and birds.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Syed E Hasnanain said that the World Wildlife Fund team already visited the campus for the preliminary survey and they will identify certain areas in the campus rich in vegetation and demarcate them as protected zones. These identified protected zones will be free from human habitations and devoid of any construction activity. He said that the ICRISAT, one of the leading international scientific institutions has recently released its biodiversity document.

The University has been a host of several rock walks and other activities. Peacock Lane on the campus is quite popular and many had the opportunity to sight a peacock in its glory on many occasions. Number of people from across the country visits this place to have a glance on Mushroom rocks, Buffalo Lake, VC Rock, Devil's Den, Heaven on the Earth are among the places frequently visited by people.
