The Philosophy behind Research & Teaching Assistantship (RTA)
This is a new scheme of IGNOU designed to meet the high quality human resource requirements in teaching and research in the areas of the highly technology-intensive Open and Distance Learning, ICT-, web-, satellite-based and online learning in the various disciplines of higher education.
Essential Profile
The Scheme is open to postgraduate degree holders with a consistently top academic record and who would like to do teaching and research in discipline-based ODL pedagogy.
Job Location
The RTA scheme will be tenable in all Schools and Academic/Training Divisions/Institutes of IGNOU in the head quarters, Regional Centers of the University, State Open Universities, Distance Education Institutes and any other Institution recognized by the University for this purpose.
Responsibilities
The RTA selected under the scheme has to do full-time research under an approved guide and can be registered for PhD under the rules of the University. The RTA has also teaching responsibilities for a minimum of 5hrs a week along with full-time research
Duration
The RTA will be initially for a period of 3 years; after this based on a progress evaluation the RTA will be upgraded to the senior category for a further maximum period of 2 years
Emoluments
The emoluments during the first 3 years will be Rs. 10,000/- pm with an annual contingent grant of Rs. 20,000/-. For the senior category for the 4th and 5th year, the RTA monthly emoluments will be Rs. 12,000/- An amount of Rs. 5000/- pa will be paid as overhead charges to the institution where the RTA is availed.
How to apply
The application forms and other details can be obtained from the Director, Academic Co-ordination Division, Block-1, Room No. 18, Indira Gandhi National Open University, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110068 on all working days between 10.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs in person. The application forms can also be obtained by post by sending a self addressed envelope (stamped worth Rs. 27/- size 20 cm x 25 cm). The last date for receipt of filled in application forms is 25th May, 2007.
