The Institute is built and wass formally inaugurated by his Highness Marquis of Linlithgo, the then Viceroy of India on November 7, 1936. The Institute was renamed to IARI in 1947. Postgraduate School was established in 1958 and was recognized as a Deemed University. The University has awarded 2842 M.Sc. degrees and 3758 Ph.D. degrees so far (as of 2006-07 Academic year)
