Mangalore University - Mangalore University declines BSc course affiliation to three Government colleges

Says colleges have to put necessary infrastructure in place before granted affiliation

Mangalore, June 19, 2007

The Academic Council Meeting of the Mangalore University that met on Monday under the chairmanship of the University Vice Chancellor KM Kaveriappa has taken few major decisions. The University decided not to grant affiliation to three government colleges in Hebri, Uppinangady and Haleyangadi stating that the colleges lack proper infrastructure including laboratory, library, qualified teaching faculty amongst others. It said that the University considers granting affiliation after the colleges put the necessary infrastructure in place and after another inspection by a committee.

The council has granted affiliation to Milagris College, Kalyanapura for conducting a certificate course on women empowerment for the academic year 2007-08. The council has also decided that the affiliation of Agastya College of Management Studies, Mangalore could be granted after it fulfills certain conditions as prescribed by the University.

Another major development is the recommendation of an optional subject in the Bachelor of Science (BSc) stream. The council approved the syllabus prescribed by the Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara College, Ujire for the subject "Medicinal Plant Biotechnology". Similarly, the syllabus for Master of Science (MSc) - Food Science and Technology that was proposed by the University for running in the Campus college was also approved.
