About the course

Students admitted to the programme are eligible for the award of M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology on successful completion of the course.

Some of the courses offered at the Centre of Biotechnology are: General Mathematics; Statistics / General Biology–I; General Physics / General Biology–II; Computer Applications in Biotechnology; Biochemistry; Biophysics; Cell Biology & Microbiology; Molecular Biology & Molecular Genetics; Oligonucleotide Synthesis & Applications; Immunology; Genetic Engineering & Applications; Animal Biotechnology; Plant Biotechnology; Human Genomics, Cytogenetics & Bioinformatics; Fermentation Technology; Enzyme Technology; Environmental Biotechnology; and Vaccine development and Production etc.

Summer Training for 8 weeks is required after second semester, where students go to various research institutions; the third and fourth semesters involve conduct of research projects at the Center under the guidance of the faculty at the Center.

The curriculum is regularly modified and updated with recent developments. The Center has visits from eminent National and International scientists / teachers to deliver specialist lectures. The students are encouraged in various extra curricular activities like annual magazine, seminars in the science faculty and science day celebrations.

The Center has well established research laboratories and is pursuing research programmes in the following areas:

Plant Tissue Culture and Plant Biotechnology, Cyanobacterial Molecular Biology, Environmental Bioremedation, Drug Delivery system using synthetic oligonucleotides, Nano Biotechnology, Cyanobacterial Toxicology, Bio Leaching & Biohydrogen production.

The Center has active interaction for both teaching and research with various departments in the University of Allahabad and International Institutes / Universities.

Admission / Hostel Fee

Rs.4000/- Tuition fee per semester, Rs.2000/-(refundable security ) p.a., Rs.500/- examination fee per semester, Rs.2500/- other annual dues.
