About the course

Students admitted to the programme are eligible for the award of M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology on successful completion of the course.

The programme has been introduced from the session 2001-2002 with initial financial support from the DBT, Govt. of India. The efforts of the faculty members of the Departments of Zoology, Botany, Chemistry and Computer Science are combined for a progress of the programme. It is expected that with further financial support from different sources during the Tenth Five Year Plan, the Department of Biotechnology will flourish as an independent department comparable to that of other leading institutions in India.

The faculty members involved pursue research in the field of tumour immunology, immunogenetics, immunophytopathology, fish diseases, insect biotechnology, industrial microbiology, environmental management, biodiversity and bioconservation, tissue culture etc.

The course comprises of biochemistry, tissue culture, microbiology, cell biology and molecular genetics, immunology, statistics and computer applications, industrial microbiology, agricultural biotechnology, Immunotechnology and biotechnology of disease management, genetics engineering, biophysics, biodiversity, bioconservation and environmental biotechnology.
