About the course

Students admitted to the programme are eligible for the award of M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology on successful completion of the course.

The DBT sponsored M.Sc. Biotechnology programme at Visva Bharati University is run by the School of Life Sciences (Departments of Botany, Zoology and Centre for Biotechnology) Institute of Agriculture and Computer Centre of the University. There are more than 20 highly trained and motivated faculty members involved in the teaching programme in theoretical and practical courses in Cell Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, rDNA Technology and Proteomics, Biostatistics and Computer Applications, Methods and Techniques, in M.Sc. I. In the M.Sc. II course the students are trained in Microbial Technology, Animal Cell Culture, Plant and Crop Biotechnology, Hormone Biotechnology, Biotechnology of Medicinal Plants and Disease Management, Environmental Biotechnology, Biotechnology of Animal Products, Soil and Aquatic Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Bioethics. The students also undertake an independent research project under the guidance of any faculty member in M.Sc. II. All practical classes are conducted with sophisticated instruments available at the Department of Zoology (UGA-DSA Department), Department of Botany and Computer Centre.
