This is a Tutor Marked Assignment. There are two questions in this assignment. Answer both the questions. You may use illustrations and diagrams to enhance explanations.
Question 1:
(a) An instruction adds two single dimensional arrays. Assume that each array has 10 elements. How will this instruction be executed by a Von Neumann machine in a most optimal way. Justify your answer. (1 Mark)
(b) "A disk interrupt should be serviced immediately and therefore, should be given a higher priority." Is the statement above correct? Justify your answer. (1 Mark)
(c) What is the need of Bus Arbitration? How is daisy chaining arbitration scheme different than that of Polling in the context of Bus request and grant? Which of the two in your opinion is better when a large number of devices are connected on a common bus? Justify your answer. (1 Mark)
(d) A Company has a Multimedia server that can service about 20 simultaneous user's request for multimedia. Suggest the suitable configuration for the server. You must include the following details in the configuration: (2 Marks)

(a) What are the different addressing modes in 8086 microprocessor? Which of these addressing modes are most suitable for: (i) Global variables (ii) Arrays (iii) Segmented Memory access (iv) representing pointers. (1 Mark)
(b) What is a micro-operation? How can it be related to a Micro-program? Describe with the help of an example micro-program. (1 Mark)
(c) What is a DOS function call in 8086? Explain with the help of suitable example. (1 Mark)
(d) Explain the following in the context of 8086 Microprocessor. (Give suitable example of your own). (2 Marks)
