Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship Scheme (RGNFS) for SC/ST candidates sponsored by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India.
The University Grants Commission invites applications for the award of fellowship for the year 2006-07 under Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship Scheme (RGNFS) for SC/ST candidates.
The scheme has been initiated keeping in view the social background of the candidates from the deprived section of the society and to provide them opportunity to undertake advanced studies and research in Science, Engg & Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences in Indian Universities & Colleges.
The objective of this award is to provide fellowships in the form of financial assistance to students belonging to SC/ST to pursue higher studies leading to M.Phil and Ph.D.
The candidate should have a post graduate degree in the concerned subject. He/she should preferably be registered for M.Phil or Ph.D. in any University/Institution in India.
The candidate would be eligible for following financial assistance
(i) Fellowship:
- @ Rs.8000/- p.m. for initial two years; @ Rs.9000/- p.m. for remaining tenure
- JRF SRF
(ii) Contingency A:
- @ Rs.10000/- p.a. for initial two years; @ Rs.20500/- p.a. for remaining tenure
- Humanities & Social Sciences
(iii) Contingency B:
- @ Rs.12000/- p.a. for initial two years; @ Rs.25000/- p.a. for remaining tenure
- Sciences
(iv) Departmental Assistance:
- @Rs.3000/- p.a. per student to the host institution for providing infrastructure
- For all disciplines
(v) Escorts/Reader assistance:
- @ Rs.1000/- p.m. in cases of physically handicapped & blind candidates
- For all disciplines
(vi) HRA:
- As per rules of the University/Institution
- For all disciplines
The applications in the prescribed format given below may be sent to the Joint Secretary, (SA), University Grants Commission, University of Delhi, South Campus, Benito Juarez Marg, New Delhi-110 021 duly forwarded through the Universities / Institutions / Colleges where the fellow desires to undertake research work within one month from the date of issue of advertisement. Advance copy of the applications may also be sent directly to the above address. Those who have already applied in response to the earlier advertisement dated 22.03.2006 need not apply again. Their applications would be considered for the fellowships available for both the years i.e. 2005-2006 and 2006-2007.
The application form must be filled in carefully. Attested copies of all certificates and degrees including caste/tribe certificates must be enclosed along with the Application. Direct & incomplete applications are liable to be rejected.
The selection will be made on the basis of the percentage of marks of the candidates in their Post Graduate examination. The decision of the Commission in this regard shall be final.
