PAPER X (a) - AGRICULTURAL GEOGRAPHY

Unit I

The origin of agriculture - Geographical factors influencing agriculture - physical, cultural, socio-economic - soil classification - erosion and conservation - irrigation : needs, types, methods and problems

Unit II

Major agricultural systems of the world : subsistence farming, commercial farming, plantation farming. Distribution of crops - cereals, beverage crops, industrial crops and cash crops

Unit III

Geographical distribution of cattle, sheep and goats - dairing - fishing - favourable factors - major fishing grounds of the world - forests - types and distribution

Unit IV

Agricultural classification - Land use theory - Theory of agricultural location

Unit V

Waster land classification - Census land use classification - NRIS - Waste land classification.
