Semester VI - Application Oriented Subject - Remote Sensing and Applications to Marine Sciences

Unit I
Coastal Processes - Oceanic circulation, Upwelling and sinking, Current measeurment, waves, surface waves, water motion in waves, reflection, diffraction and refraction, wave generated currents
Unit II
Tides, tidal forces, sediment drift, Remote Sensing application for coastal erosion and accretion, salinity intrusion, navigation, estuarine studies and Coastal Zone Management.
Unit III
Morphological divisions of sea and biological environment - biological
productivity of ocean environment - food chain of the sea.
Unit IV
Ocean Resource Estimation - Ocean living and non-living resources - evaluation, ocean resources, primaiy productivity studies - estimation of biomass, etc.
Unit V
Remote Sensing Applications: coastal and ocean resource management - wetland
mapping - Mangroves - coral reefs and other pollution assessment.
