Semester VI - Application Oriented Subject - Shallow Water Processes

UNIT I
Introduction to shallow water environments and their sediments supply of sediments to shallow water environments - variation in the supply and distribution of shallow water environment - Their relationship between shallow water environments and their changes.
Unit II
Sediment movement by waves and currents - fluid flow - sediment erosion - rate of sediment transport - deposition of sediment - bed forms.
Unit III
Tidal flats and estuaries - sediment transport and deposition on tidal flats- sediment distribution on tidal flats-low latitude tidal flats - Estuarine types - sedimentation in different types of estuaries - preservation of the dynamic balance of estuaries.
Unit IV
Deltas -The structure of delta-mixing and sediment deposition at distributary mouths - River dominated deltas-tide dominated deltas-wave dominated deltas-other types of deltas.
Unit V
Shelf seas - Shelf sediments-shelf processes-ocean currents-local wind driven currents-tidal currents-storm surges-wave action-bed forms on the continental shelf-scour hollows, furrows and sand ribbons, sand waves and other transverse bed forms-sand banks.
