Biotechnology - definition & history - Enzyme biotechnology - enzyme production from
microbes - applications - enzyme immobilization techniques - products produced.
Unit II :
Microbial algal technology - cultivation methods of Spirulina -
biotechnological potentials of micro algae - food, feed, fuel, production - pharmaceutically valubale compounds of micro algae.
Unit III :
Principles and applications of genetic recombinant technology and strain improvement (mutational, rDNA technologies). Production of biotechnological products. Food - SCP (algae, yeast, mushroom). Biofertiliser (BGA, VAM) Biopesticides (Bascillus thruinginsis). Fuel - ethanol; Pharmaceuticals - antigens, interferons, vaccines, insulin, gene-therapy methods.
