Semester III - Paper VII - MCC-503 - Medical Parasitology and Mycology

Unit I:
Morphology, Taxonomy, clasification of fungi, detection and recoveiy of fungi from
clincical specimens. Dermatophytes and agents of superficial mycoses. Trichophyton.
Edidermophyton and Microsporurn. Yeasts of medical importance -- Candida., cryptococcus.
Mycotoxins, Antifungal agents, testing methods and quality control.
Unit II :
Dimorphic fungi causing systemic mycoses, Histopiasma, Cocciodes: Sporothrix, Biastonices, Opportunistic fungi. Fungi causing Eurnycotin mycetoma. Newer methods in diagnostic mycology. Iminunit to fungal infections.
Unit III :
Introduction to medical Parasitology - Classification, Protozoa - Entamoeba - Plasomodium, Leishmania - Trypanosoma -Giardia Trichomonas -- Balantidium.
Unit IV :
Platyhelmintus -- Taenia - Faesioia - Paragonimus - Schistosorna. Nematihelminthes - Ascaria - Ankylostoma - Enterobius - Trichuris - Trichinella - Wuchereria - Dracunculus.
Laboratory techniques in Parasitology. Examination of faeces for o’’a and cysts - Concentration
methods. Blood smear examination for Parasites. Cultivation of Protozoan Parasites.
