Semester I - Allied Subject I - Anatomy and Physiology

Unit I
Introduction:
i. Need and Importance of anatomy and physiology for the students of physical education.
ii Descriptive terms used to describe the human body.
iii. Definition of cell, Tissue, Organ and system.
iv. Microscopic structure of the Cell.
v. Classification, Structure and functions of various types of tissues.
Unit II
i. Skeletal systems: Names of the human bones, classification of joints, Definitions of the skeletal system.
ii. Joints: Definition and classification of joints. Anatomical structure of synovial joints, terminology of movements around a joint.
Unit III
i. Structure of the heart, Systematic pulmonary, Coronary circulation.
ii. Blood- Functions of blood, composition of blood, lymph and its functions.
iii. Respiratory system - Definition of respiration, structure and functions of respiratory system, mechanism for respiration lung volumes.
Unit IV
i Nervous systems - Structure and functions of brain, spinal cord and reflex arc.
ii. Digestive system- Structure and functions of alimentary canal, Accessory organs of digestive
- liver, pancreas, Gall bladder.
iii. Muscular system- Structural and functions classification of muscles, (skeletal, cardiac and smooth) and its significance. General characteristics of muscles. (Elasticity, Contractibility & Irritability).
Unit V
i. Urinary system- Structure and functions of kidney and Urinary tract, formation of Urine. Brief account of Reproductive system.
ii. Endocrine system: Pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, pancreas and sex glands.
iii. Organs of special senses- Eye, ear, nose, tongue, skin and regulation of body temperature.
