SYLLABUS

Semester III - Allied Subject III - Psychology and Sociology of Physical Education and Sports

PSYCHOLOGY:

Unit I

Meaning, scope and nature of psychology and psychology of Physical Education and sports and importance of psychology.

Unit II

i. Motor learning - Factors that affect motor learning, stages of learning, learning process, role of perception in physical education and sports.

ii. Growth and development - Age and behaviour characteristics.

iii. Personality - Nature of personality, various traits of personality and its relation to performance in physical education and sports. Participation in physical activity and development of personality.

iv. Emotions and their role in physical education and sports.

v. Motivation - Meaning and its role in physical education and sports.

Unit III

i. Main tasks in psychological preparation. Psychological aspects of short-term and long-term training.

ii. Psycho-regulative procedures:

a. Autogenic training.

b. Relaxation with music.

c. Relaxation with apparatus.

d. Relaxation with yogic practices.

SOCIOLOGY:

Unit IV

i. Meaning, nature and scope of sociology and sociology of physical education and sports. Social significance of sports. Sports as an institutionalizing agency.
