i. Introduction - Meaning of Education and Physical Education, Definition of Education - Physical Education, Physical Culture & Physical Training.
ii. Aims and Objectives of Education and physical education.
iii. Physical Education - As an art and science. Its nature and source of principles - application of those principles.
Unit II
i. Hereditary and Environment.
ii. Principles governing physical and motor growth and development.
iii. Differences among male and female
iv. Chronological, anatomical, mental and physiological ages in individuals
v. Body types (Somato types).
Unit III
i. National Programme of Physical Education and Sports. National Institute of Physical Education and sports. Sports talent search, scholarship, National Coaching Scheme, Rural sports, Women sports.
ii. National Awards and Honours to outstanding Sports person.
iii. National Awards for Physical Education and Sports Literature.
iv. Youth Welfare Programme: NCC, NSS, NSO, Scouting and Guiding, Youth Hostels, Youth Festivals, Camping Mountaineering.
Unit IV
i. Physical Education in ancient India , vedic period, Epic period, Budhist period, development of indigeneous activities especially Yogic Physical Exercises.
ii. Physical Education in the City states of Sparta and Athens
iii. Physical Education in ancient Rome, Physical and moral education. The circus Gladiatorial combats.
iv. Contribution to the growth of Physical Education by leaders and movements in various countries.
v. Olympic Games.

i. Notions about mind and body, psycho-physical Units of man.
ii. Impulses, drives and habits.
iii. The Learning Process: -
a. Laws of learning (Principles of learning)
b Transfer of Training/Learning.
c. Primary, Associate and concomitant learning.
d. The learning curve.
e. Factors and conditions which promote learning.
