Semester II - Core III - Basic Psychology

Chapter I:

Intelligence - Theories - Factor, Cognitive: measurement of Intelligence; Determinants; Testing for special aptitudes

Chapter II:

Motivation - Motives as inferences, explanations and predictors, Theories of motivation, Biological motivation, social motives, Motives to know and to be effective, Frustration and Conflicts of motives

Chapter III:

Emotions - Emotions & lie detectors, expression of emotions, Facial, feedback hypothesis, Theories of emotions; HealthPsychology - Stress, Selye’s concept of stress, Lazarus’s Approach, posttraumatic stress disorder, Effect on health, stressors, Stress cycles, Effect on body, Coping with stress

Chapter IV:

Personality - Determimints of Personality (brief review), Theories Of personality - Psychodynamic, Trait, Type, Learning, Behavioural & Self: Measurement of personality

Chapter V:

Consciousness - Fundamental processes, active and passive roles of consciousness; Sleep & dreams; Hypnosis.
