Application Oriented Subject-I - Environmental Bio-Chemistry

Duration: 3 hrs

1 Environmental Biochemistry

1. Air pollution

Particulate matter, compounds of carbon, sulphur, nitrogen and their interactions, methods of their estimation, their effect on atmosphere. (18 hrs)

2. Water pollution

Types of water bodies and their general characteristics, major pollutants in domestic, agricultural and industrial wates, methods of their estimation, effects of pollutants on plants and animals (18 hrs)

3. Pollution of water by micro organisms, bacteriological analysis of water-sewage treatment-home and industrial. (18 hrs)

4. Chemical toxicology

Toxic chemicals in the environment, impact of toxic chemicals on enzymes. Biochemical effects of Ar, Pb, Cd. Hg. Biochemical effects of CO, NOx, SOx, pesticides (18 hrs)

5. Bioremediation for environmental cleanup. Biomass utilization and micróbial degradation of Xenobiotics. (18 hrs)
