Semester V - Paper VIII - Molecular Biology II

Unit I

Transcription-Prokaryotic RNA polymerase-Enzyme structure, role of sigma factor, promotor, closed and open promoter complexes.

Initiation, elongation and termination of RNA synthesis. (12 hrs)

Unit II

Eukaryotic RNA polymerases- I,II,III.

Post transcriptional modification in Prokaryotes. Post transcriptional modifications of mRNA,rRNA and tRNA. Inhibitors of transcription. (12 hrs)

Unit III

Genetic Code-Genetic Code: Basic features of genetic code. Deciphering of Genetic code. Wobble Hypothesis. (12 hrs)

Unit IV

Protein biosynthesis-activation of amino acids, initiation, elongation and termination of Translation in prokaryotes.

Post translation modifications. Inhibitors of translation. (12 hrs)

Unit V

Regulation of gene expression in prokaryotes Operon- Concept- Positive and negative regulation of lac operon. (12 hrs)
