SYLLABUS

Semester IV - Practical II

Duration: 6 hrs
Maximum Marks: 100
Credits: 4

(90 hrs)

1. OXIDOMETRY

a. Use of potassium permanganate in the estimation of iron, oxalates, hydrogen peroxide, nitrite and chromate.
b. Estimation of calcium from biological fluids like blood, milk and urine.
c. Use of potassium dichromate in the standardization of sodium thiosulphate and estimation of copper by iodimetry.

2. COLORIMETRY

a. Estimation of inorganic phosphorous by Fiske and Subbarow method.
b. Estimation of amino acids by ninhydrin method.
c. Estimation of protein by Biuret method.

3. BIOCHEMICAL PREPARTION

a. Preparation of starch from potatoes.
b. Preparation of case in and lactalbumin from milk.
c. Preparation of haemoglobin from blood.
d. Preparation of albumin from eggs.
e. Preparation of cellulose from plant material.

4. EXPERIMENTS ON COLLOIDS AND GEL

a. Preparation of lyophilic and lyophobic sols.
b. Preparation and protective action of colloids.
c. Preparation of viscosity of a colloidal sol.
d. Preparation of gel (agar, gelatin or starch) and demonstration of diffusion.
e. Simple experiments involving dialysis.
