Semester VI - Paper XII - Well Logging and Integrated Geophysical Methods

Unit I
Introduction to well logging, conditions of measurements - bore hole diameter, filtrate invasion, various types of logging techniques. importance and need of well logging technique.
Unit II
Spontaneous Polarization Logging - Membrance Potential , Electro-kinetic Component of SP, Shape of SP curves and detemination of formation boundaries, determination of salinity of formation water from the SP logs.
Unit III
Resistivity logging - Conventional sondes, electrical resistance, single electrode euipment. multi-electrode equipment, potential and gradient sondes, direct and reverse sondes, response of potential and gradient sondes over thin and thick beds, application and limitations of Resistivity logging.
Unit IV
Principles and applications of natural gamma logging, gamma gamma (density) logging, neutron - neutorn logging, caliper and fluid Resistivity logging - Application of logging techniques in solving ground water and mineral exploration related problems.
Unit V
Integration of geophysical methods, need for integration, process of integration - advantages of integration - case studies of integrated geophysical investigations for mineral exploration and ground water related problems.
