Test Papers of Andhra University SDE MBA (DM) - AMDM - 308 - Industrial Relations - 2004

Third Year

Time : Three hours

Maximum : 75 marks

1 Section A consists of eight short answer questions. The candidate has to answer four questions, The answer shall not exceed 1 page each.
(2) Section B consists of four questions. Each question consists of either or choices and the candidate has to answer either (a) or b) front each question. The answer shall no: exceed 5 pages each.
(3) Section C consists of case which is compulsory and carries 15 marks.

SECTION A — (4 x 3 = 12 marks)

Answer any FOUR of the following:

(a)Explain the importance of union management relation.
(b) State the procedure for trade union ecognition.
(c) Explain the manifestations of industrial disputes.
(d) What are the functions of quality circles?
(e) Explain the aims of workers' educational schemes.
(f) What is meant by white collar trade union
(g) What are the causes of industrial conflicts
(h) Explain the meaning of arbitration adjudication.

SECTION B - (4 x 12 = 48 marks)

2. (a) "Liberalisation, privatisation globalisation have introduced new approaches in management relations", Discuss.

Or

b) Explain the importance and components industrial relations system.

3. (a) Write a note on the development of Trade Union Movement in India.

Or

(b) What are the reasons for inter and India Union conflicts and rivalry? Offer suggestion to from unity among trade unions.

4. (a) What are the items usually included in selective bargaining agreements in India? State the conditions required for the success of collective bargaining.

Or

(b) Discuss the role and impact of participative in successful implementation of workers' participation in management in India.

5. (a) Examine the impact of cross cultural aspects union management relations in the context of economic reforms during the last decade.

Or

(b) What is meant by social security? Discuss the role and contribution of ILO to the workers' safety and health.

SECTION C — (15 marks)

Case study

The Indian Posts and Telegraphs is one of the largest organisations and the biggest employer in the country. It is a labour intensive organisation providing employment to nearly 20 lakh people. The management wants to computerise the important activities in view of the criticisms levelled by the public regarding the delay delivery, delivery to wrong addresses etc.

Mr. Bhujangam, the President of National feration of Postal and Telegraphs Workers Unions PTWU has been opposing the computerisation. FPTWU is one of the two recognised unions. Management invited Mr. Rajesh, the President of All India Postal and Telegraph Workers Union (AIPTWU) the second recognised Union — first to the Chairman Chamber and discussed the introduction of computer both positive and negative effects of this programming opposition by Mr. Bhujangam, President of his Union etc. Mr. Rajesh has given the written assurance to the management that his union will fully support the computerisation. Then the management has appointed committee under the Chairmanship of Mr. Bhujangan to prepare a plan and execute it regarding the computerisation. When management asked Mr. Bhujangam to accept his appointment he asked "You know I am opposing the computerisation. Why did you select me as a Chairman?".

Management replied, "We know your opposition We appointed you because we knew that if any existed, you would find them. And we believe that you can correct them".

Questions:

(a) What is the strategy of Management appointing Mr. Bhujangarn as a Chairman of committee?
(b) Do you think that the Management strategy will work effectively in this case?
(c) What steps you would take for some implementation of computerisation?
