PRINCIPLES OF PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES
(Effective from the admitted batch of (2000-2001)
Time: Three hours
Maximum: 75 marks

First question is compulsory.
Answer any FOUR from the remaining questions.
All questions carry equal marks.
Write all bits of the first question at one place.

1.Write short notes on any TWO of the following:

(a) Syntax Vs. Semantics

(b) Expressions in C language

(c) Data Abstraction.

2. Discuss various criteria for the design of programming language.

3. Give the syntax in BNF notation for the following C language constructs

(a) for loop

(b) while do

Also draw the syntax graphs for the above.

4. Explain the following:

(a) Static Scoping Vs. Dynamic Scoping

(b) Activation Record

(c) Display.

5. Discuss the various parameter passing methods with examples.

6. Write about the various control constructs in C++ with examples.

7. Explain about various inheritance types in JAVA with examples.

8. Define concurrency. Explain how concurrency is handled in JAVA.
