BLS-1 : LIBRARY AND SOCIETY

Time: 3 hours
Maximum Marks: 70

Note : Answer all questions. All questions carry equal marks. Illustrate your answers with suitable examples and diagrams, wherever necessary. Write the relevant question number before writing the answer.

1.1 Discuss the role of libraries in the changing society.

OR

1.2 "Libraries contribute greatly to the society in the promotion of education both formal and non-formal in many ways." Discuss.

2.1 Discuss how 'Five Laws of Library Science' provide us general principles for efficient library organisation, management and operation.

OR

2.2 Explain the implications of Five Laws in the wide context of documentation or information work.

3.1 "Government has appointed ad hoc committees from time to time to consider either exclusively or partially the development of libraries in the country and suggest improvements in their functioning in the form of recommendations."B riefly discuss the recommendations on libraries by some of the important committees appointed by the Government of India.

OR

3.2 Discuss the objectives and functions of a University Library. Describe the distinct characteristics of a University Library that distinguish it from a College Library.

4.1 What is meant by 'Library Legislation' and why is it necessary ? Discuss some of its significant components.

OR

4.2 Discuss the basic purpose of User studies in libraries. Explain the methodologies for conducting User studies.

5.0 Write short notes on any three of the following (in about 300 words each) :
(a) National Library of India : Reader's services
(b) Types of Information Centres
(c) Goals and Objectives of Library User Education
(d) Resource sharing in Libraries in Delhi
(e) Ubrarianship as a profession
