SECTION I
1. You are on a dry cargo vessel which is about to proceed to sea after completion of loading. Make out a list of items which are required to be checked before the vessel departs from the port. (10)
2. What do you understand by the term 'vessel restricted in her ability to manoeuvre' ? Name at least five marine operations which coulld restricl vessels in their ability to monoeuvre. (10)
3. How would you ascertain that a risk of coflision exists ? What do we mean when we say that action to avoid coflision is required to be positive ? (10)
4. What are lights and shapes which are exhibited by a vessel engaged in fishing other than a trawler, when at anchor, underway, and when making way through water ? (5)
SECTION II
5. What is insolation ? Show by means of a sketch insolation received by the Earth in summer and in winter. Explain why polar regions are colder than the equatorial regions. (10)
6. What is the diurnal range of atmospheric temperature ? Why is this range large over land while relatively less over the sea ? (5)
7. Describe by means of a sketch the "Hydrological cycle" . (5)
8. Why does the sea water, although transparent and clear, appear blue ? (5)
9. Write short notes on : (10)

(b) Evaporation of sea water
