Note : Answer ten questions in all. Attempt any five questions from each Section. All questions carry equal marks.

SECTION A

BRIDGE EQUIPMENT & COLREGS

1. Explain with a simple block diagram the working principle of a Marine Radar. (7)

2. Describe the general procedure to change over from hand to auto steering. (7)

3. Explain how GPS determines position of an observer. (7)

4. How would you take over a bridge watch at sea in restricted visibility ? (7)

METEOROLOGY & OCEANOGRAPHY

7. Describe briefly four main ways in which clouds are formed. Support your answer by suitable drawings/skeiches. (7)

8. Describe briefly warning signs of an approaching tropical revolving storm and how you would go about ascertaining the bearing of the storm centre. (7)
