CNCC-2: ORGANIZING CHILD CARE SERVICES

1. (a) Describe one activity each that you will carry, out to foster: (3x10=30)
(i) Ability to classify in a 4 year old child
(ii) Gross motor development of a 9 month old child
(iii) Exploration of surroundings for a 6 month old child
(iv) Concept of size for a 4 year old child
(v) Emotional development of a 6 month old child
(vi) Fine motor development of a 2 year old child
(vii) Awareness of one's body for a 3 year old child
(viii) Vocabulary development of a 2 year old child
(ix) Ability to take another person's perspective for a 4 year old child
(x) Altruism and empathy in a 5 year old child
The description must clearly state what you will do during that activity.
Also, along with the description of each activity, explain in 2 - 3 sentences as to why you think the particular activity fosters development in that area. In other words, justify the choice of that activity.
(b) Briefly explain the following terms giving examples wherever possible : (2x5=10)
(i) Egocentrism
(ii) Firm and affectionate parenting
(iii) Articulation problems
(iv) Supplementary feeding
(v) Socialization
2. (a) Explain giving examples how the study of child development is helpful and important for us. (10)
(b) List what should be the components of (in other words, the services provided by) an ideal child care centre. (5)
3. (a) Explain what is meant by the word Cognition. (2)
Give four examples from day-to-day life which show that the child begins to develop thinking abilities right from the time he is born. This means that your examples should be about children in the age group of birth to six months. (8)
(b) List the milestones of gross motor development in the first year of life. Meniion the age range with respect to each milestone. (5)
4. (a) What is meant by 'self-concept' ? (4)
(b) Why is it important for the child to develop a positive self-concept and how can the parents help him in doing so ? (6)
(c) List any five pre-reading or pre-writing skills. (5)
5. (a) State at least 10 aspects that you will keep in mind while evaluating the play activities/curriculum of a child care centre. (10)
(b) List the benefits of organizing the art activities for children in a child care centre. (5)
6. (a) Explain what is meant by a 'balanced diet'. (2)
(b) Suggest a balanced lunch menu for a 3 year old child. State the nutrients provided by each item in the menu. (8)
(c) What factors did you keep in mind while choosing the lunch menu ? (5)
7. (a) List the various ways of determining the progress of children attending a Preschool centre. (4)
(b) Describe any one of the above ways in detail, giving examples. (5)
(c) Describe briefly the importance of involving the parents in the activities of a Preschool centre and suggest three ways of doing so. (3+3)
8. Write short notes (400-500 words) on any two of the followng : (7.5 + 7.5)
(a) Critical periods in development, giving examples
(b) Qualities of a good child care worker (discuss at least 5 qualities)
(c) Ways of helping the child to develop language skills in the first year of life
(d) Preschooler's ability to conserve
